HORSE SPIRIT COLLECTIVE

Understanding the Blackfoot Ways

guided by the Horse Spirit

Vision

To preserve and pass traditional Blackfoot knowledge to the next generation who will carry it forward through practicing our way of life and reclaiming our place on the land. To reinforce our Indigenous worldview through nurturing our connection with what sustains us.

Mission

Horse Spirit Collective supports Indigenous health and wellness through culturally rooted programs, guided by Blackfoot traditional knowledge, to strengthen community and promote holistic healing.

Our Elder Pat Provost

Pat is a lifelong rancher, rodeo rider, roughstock contractor, Indian relay trainer, and horse trader. Pat has served his community throughout his life through his involvement in the Blackfoot sacred societies. He is a recognized great-grandfather in both the Horn society and the Brave Dogs society, and holds traditional transferred rights to Blackfoot knowledge. He has sat on band council and has advised on many Piikani land consultation projects. Pat knows the horse industry, especially in southern Alberta, inside and out and wants to transfer this knowledge to the next generations of Blackfoot youth.

Together with his son, Ty Provost, Pat has been developing and refining the Horse Spirit program. Ty’s background is similar o his father’s. From an early age, Ty demonstrated his gifts with horses. An accomplished rodeo rider, stuntman, and Indian relay racer, Ty’s confidence and and love of horses is evident. He has merged ideas from EGALA training, with the vision him and his father have for Horse Spirit programs, which provide Blackfoot youth with critical opportunities to foster their traditional and cultural relationship with the spirit of the horse.

What We Do

Horse Spirit Collective offers a variety of programs. Our primary focus is on supporting the health and wellbeing of our Blackfoot youth. We have been running horse therapy programs through partnerships with the Blackfoot Nations for over ten years. We offer cultural training camps, educational workshops, organizational and team development and much more. We are currently planning to increase the availability of our therapy programs and expand the availability of our teachings.
